Introduction:
For long Human Resources was considered as a here support function,
just making the different departments of an organization meet their manpower
requirement, taking care of the compensation aspect or going about doing the
all mundane and routinised administrative compliance chares. But the winds of
change have certainly blown in the right directions putting the function of
HR right at the centre stage. This is to a large extent own o the total quality
orientation in many an organizations. And one organization amongst them whose
have is quite a worth mentioning is, Gabriel India Limited (GIL).
An organization where Human Resource function can be seen as
'vital spoke’ in the wheel of business.
The objectives of the project study were essentially "to assess the way
in which HR department provides input into strategic management of an organization"
and "to map the extent to which organizational work culture integrates
human resource quality and strategic concerns".
Also a study on the impact of four pillars of the House of Quality, namely customer
satisfaction, continuos improvement, speaking with facts and respect for people-
on the organization as a whole and the HR activities n particular
was carried out as put of this project work. The research design chosen for
the same was descriptive in nature with a total of thirty analyze taken as sample
for the study.
This sample set of 30, five were from the senior management, twelve were from
the Middle Management and the rest thirteen from the lower management. The responses
were gathered from the sample set by means of structured questionnaire three
in number. They essentially catered to tapping the organizational strategic
input from the HR front. The perception mapping regarding the ethical work culture
and the measurement of the effectiveness of the total quality efforts undertaken
by the organization.
Apart from primary information, secondary information was collected from
Gabriel India Ltd's manual policy chockets and the Anand group Corporate
dossier. The results of the questionnaires were then analyzed to gangue the
level of HR participation towards strategic management of the
organization, map the extent of work culture towards integration of human resource
quality (Strategic concern and last but not the least, how quality was brought
into the holistic aspects of the organization.
