Introduction:
Outsourcing has started generating a lot of interest globally
among the corporate sector and India too is not lagging behind. As the complexities
in information system increase and at same time significance of information
system in achieving strategic competitiveness in the market place increase,
there would be growing interest in exploring the options of outsourcing information
systems. Hence this study gains significance in India from the point of view
of achieving better efficiencies, better market focus and faster understanding
of customer and efficient and effective delivery processes.
This study has attempted to study the type of information systems sourcing practices
in banks, to analyze the Information Systems Outsourcing practices in terms
of its impact in short run, medium term, and long term strategic impact and
tried to identify the reasons why/why not foreign sector banks operating in
India go in for IS Outsourcing. The research has covered 3 major foreign sectors
Banks operating in India (ABN-AMRO, HSBC, and Standard Chartered)
and data was collected from 60 respondents.
For case study, purposive sampling of a business organization
(HSBC-a foreign sector Bank operating in India) was done. A
detailed case study evaluation has been carried out.
