Introduction:
Process improvement is an aspect of organizational development OD in
which a series of actions are taken by a process owner to identify, analyze
and improve existing business processes within an organization to meet new goals
and objectives, such as increasing profits and performance, reducing costs and
accelerating schedules. These actions often follow a specific methodology or
strategy to encourage and ultimately create successful results.Process improvement
may include the restructuring of company training programs to increase their
effectiveness.
Process improvement is also a method to introduce process changes to improve
the quality of a product or service, to better match customer and consumer needs.
Process improvement means making things better, not just fighting fires or
managing crises. It means setting aside the customary practice of blaming people
for problems or failures. It is a way of looking at how we can do our work better.
When we take a problem solving approach or simply try to fix whats broken,
we may never discover or understand the root cause of the difficulty. Murphys
Law comes into play and our efforts to fix things may actually make things worse.
The importance of business analytics is revealed in a recent
Bloomberg survey, which found that BA has been effective in decision making
for three out of four enterprises. Among the improvements are increased profitability,
reduced cost, faster decision making and critical performance improvements.
