Introduction:
To find out the Actual Time Taken for
Import and Export cargo Movement in the cargo terminal, this dwell time study
was undertaken at Delhi Airport Cargo Terminal, New Delhi. It was also observed
that certain factors such as installation of more counters and computer terminals,
improvement in the seating arrangements and other amenities at the airport such
as provision of A.C. facility in waiting hall, surprise checks by senior officials
etc. have played an important role in curtailment of timings of consignment
movements of both Import and Export cargo.
Import Cargo
To find out the actual time taken for import cargo movement in the cargo terminal,
field work was conducted during 1st to 30th June, 2006 at Delhi Airport
Cargo Terminal, New Delhi, to trace the movement of import cargo consignments
and time taken for each activity. The actual time taken for the Import procedures
through time and motion study for particular 15 consignments was found to be
2.3 days (54.4 hrs.).
Export Cargo
For the purpose of calculation of actual time taken for export cargo movement,
field work was conducted during 1st to 30th June, 2006 at Delhi Airport Cargo
Terminal, New Delhi, to trace the movement of export cargo consignments and
time taken for each activity. The actual time taken for the Export procedures
through time and motion study was found to be 1.3 days (28.9 hrs.).
