Successful Transition of PEC Limited from a Predominantly Export Organisation to an International Trading Company

Rs. 1,000.00

Introduction:
PEC Limited is a fully owned Government of India Undertaking under the administrative control of Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Department of Commerce. Its Headquarter and Registered office is located in Hansalaya, 15-Barakhamba Road, New Delhi-110 001. PEC has got 15 Branch offices located in all metropolitan cities and major ports both in Western as well as Eastern coast of India.
This report is an overview of the various operations of PEC Limited in relation to its International Trading activities. For this purpose, various activities undertaken by different export division as well as import department were studied, under which the import process, export process, the various procedural formalities required and the logistics involved in imports and exports of the company were studied.
It was noticed that in addition to their existing export, import and third country trading activities, there are scope of further diversification which will add both in terms of sales turnover as well as value addition. In this direction, I would like to suggest and recommend that PEC Limited should also look into the possibility of branding selected items, which can then be offered for exports in certain thrust countries where PEC is already operating. The items so selected should be from good, established manufacturers who do not have a strong brand identity but their items have good export potential.
The second recommendation would be for PEC to establish custom bonded warehouses in selected countries where consignment sale of identified items is possible. This will involve PEC tieing up arrangements with local companies and selecting a set of good and reputed manufacturers in India who are willing to utilize the warehouse facility.
This report is confined to PEC Limited. It takes into account the trading operation of the company particularly those related to International Trade. The objectives of the following report are:
- To study the working of the Marketing Department of the company and various activities undertaken in export and import division in International Trade Transactions.
- To study the Documentation Process and the Procedure followed by PEC for its Import and Export activities.
- To study the transition in operations/activities of PEC which have taken place during the course of last 30 years of its existence.
- To study the present basket of items in which PEC is presently dealing and suggest ways to further diversify its activities keeping in view the changing trade scenario and challenges.
