Information technology in India is an industry consisting of two major components: IT Services and business process outsourcing BPO. The sector has increased its contribution to Indias GDP from 1.2 percent in FY1998 to 7.5 percect in FY2012.
According to NASSCOM, the sector aggregated revenues of US 100 billion in FY2012, where export and domestic revenue stood at US dollar 69.1 billion and US dollar 31.7 billion respectively, growing by over 9 percent.
The major cities that account for about nearly 90 percent of the sectors exports are Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Bangalore is considered to be the Silicon Valley of India because it is the leading IT exporter.
